DAA-IV
Dental Anesthesia Assistant IV Training Program

Description

An applicant for certification as a Dental Anesthesia Assistant must submit to the department proof of completion in multiple areas of training. This program meets the 8 hour didactic training requirements in Intravenous Access. The training will be via in-depth lectures, utilizing PowerPoint presentation, handouts, discussion, as well as hands-on practice to ensure a complete learning experience and understanding of the delivery of IV therapy. According to the WAC 246-817-99005. Topics required to be covered within the program include (A) Intravenous access; (B) Anatomy; (C) Technique; (D) Risks and complications. Our program will include patient assessment, site selection, difficult placement, pain reduction, better patient satisfaction rate, medications commonly used, tips, and case studies designed to serve as a learning tool, etc. There will be a variety of the latest equipment for hands on viewing.

In skillful hands, an intravenous catheterization procedure is quickly and easily performed with little pain or discomfort to the patient. This unique educational program is a great resource that fosters safe practice and can help reduce errors associated with these important skills. It adheres to INS standards of care. Completion of this program can result in a skill that will be of immeasurable benefit, over the years, to both patients and medical professional inserting the IV.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice on manikins and then demonstrate one simulated insertion. "A certificate is awarded after successfully completing 8 hours for the didactic training" and after completion of an evaluation form.

In order to complete the additional intravenous access requirements for the WAC 246-817-99005. Additional hands on starting and maintaining intravenous lines with at least ten successful intravenous starts on a human or simulator/manikin is required and must be completed. This may be done under supervision of the Oral Surgeon and/or by participating in our DAA-Intravenous Access Workshop (DAA-IAW) (8 CE hours).
